At least four people were killed in rain-related incidents in the last 48 hours as heavy rain lashed across southern Gujarat, reported The Hindu. Several districts and towns were flooded while road traffic and train services were disrupted due to the rain.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in the state. According to the weather department, a cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat caused the heavy rainfall.

Additional Chief Secretary of Revenue Department Pankaj Kumar said heavy to very heavy rain has been forecast in Gujarat’s Saurashtra region – Amreli, Bhavnagar, Girsonath, Botad and Rajkot – and North Gujarat region.

Low lying areas were flooded in Navsari, Vadodara, and Surat cities. Civic bodies have begun rescue operations. Schools and educational institutions in all the affected districts have declared a holiday.

Thousands of passengers were left stranded in railway stations as nearly a dozen trains to and from Mumbai were delayed due to incessant rain in Mumbai and adjoining South Gujarat districts.
