Gauri Lankesh murder: Investigation team arrests seventh suspect
However, the SIT has kept Mohan Nayak’s role in the crime confidential.
The Special Investigation Team of the Karnataka Police, which is investigating the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh, has arrested the seventh suspect in the case, PTI reported on Friday. Lankesh was killed outside her home in Bengaluru on September 5.
Fifty-year-old Mohan Nayak, who was arrested from Dakshin Kannada district of Karnataka on Wednesday, has been sent to police custody for six days. “His role in the crime is being kept confidential for the purpose of investigation,” said the Special Investigation Team, according to News18.
The sixth arrest in the case was made in June. Parashuram Waghmare, 26, was taken into custody from Sindhagi in Vijaypura district of the state. Before Waghmare, the police had arrested five people in connection with Lankesh’s murder – KT Naveen Kumar, Amol Kale, Manohar Edve, Sujeeth Kumar alias Praveen and Amit Degvekar. A forensic report submitted to a Bengaluru court said that the same gun was used to kill Lankesh and Kannada writer MM Kalburgi, who died in Dharwad, Karnataka, in 2015.
