Three people on the boat, including the channel’s staff reporter, had been rescued on Monday.
Two men who were part of a news channel team covering floods in Kerala were found dead on Tuesday, a day after their boat capsized near Vaikom town. Two members of the Mathrubhumi news channel team and a ferryman were rescued on Monday.
The body of 46-year-old Saji, a stringer, was found in a canal soon after diving teams of fire force and the Navy resumed search operations on Tuesday morning, police said. The car driver of the team, Bipin, was also found dead a few hours later.
The townsfolk had rescued Saji’s colleagues, staff reporter KB Sreedharan and cameraman Abhilash S Nair, and the ferryman Abhilash on Monday. They are in hospital.
The five people were returning after covering the plight of monsoon-affected people in a relief camp, The New Indian Express reported. The boat had capsized in Kariyar River in Kottayam.
Saji’s body will be handed over to his relatives after an autopsy.
