Jammu and Kashmir: One CRPF personnel killed after suspected militants open fire in Srinagar
Two CRPF personnel were injured in the attack in Batamaloo area.
A Central Reserve Police Force jawan died after suspected militants opened fire on a patrolling party of the force in Batamaloo area of Srinagar on Tuesday, the police said. An unidentified CRPF spokesperson told PTI that two personnel were wounded.
Shanket Lal sustained serious injuries in th attack, and was taken to hospital. But he succumbed to his injuries, Global News Service reported. The attack took place near the Fire and Emergency Services headquarters.
A search operation has been launched to apprehend the attackers, Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, Imtiaz Ismail Parray said.
On July 13, two CRPF personnel died when suspected militants attacked a police party in Achabal town of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir told the Rajya Sabha on July 18 that 100 militants and 43 security personnel were killed in Jammu and Kashmir during the first six months of this year.
