Actor-turned-politician Hema Malini has said she can become a chief minister “in a minute” but wants to be free to pursue other interests, PTI reported on Thursday.

“I am not too keen,” said the Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. “If I want to I can become that [chief minister] in a minute, but I don’t like to be tied up. My freedom of movement will end.” She made the remark in Rajasthan’s Banswara city when asked whether she would become the chief minister if she got the opportunity. The state is likely to go for polls later this year.

“I am known mainly because of my name in Bollywood, call it ‘dream girl’ or Hema Malini,” she said. She said she had done a lot of work for her party even before being elected as MP. Now the MP of Mathura, she loves working for the “Brijwasi” people, she said.

Malini claimed said the country had progressed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had worked for farmers, women and the poor. “It is difficult to find a prime minister like him,” she said. “Leaders of other parties may say anything but we need to see who has done more work for the country.”
