Gurugram: Three men arrested for forcefully shaving Muslim man’s beard
This was an isolated incident and no organisation was involved in it, said a top police officer.
The Gurugram Police on Thursday arrested three people, including a barber, for allegedly assaulting, abusing and shaving off a Muslim man’s beard, PTI reported. The alleged incident took place on July 31 in the city’s Sector 37 area.
Jaffruddin, a resident of Haryana’s Mewat region, had come to Gurugram to meet his friend Ibrahim. He was accosted by the accused in the Khandsa Mandi locality. The accused have been identified as Gaurav and Eklash from Uttar Pradesh, and Nitin from Haryana.
“Jaffruddin initially ignored the religious insults but he finally retorted,” Gurgaon Police Public Relations Officer Subhash Bokan told PTI. “Following which, the accused persons assaulted Jaffruddin. Then they took him to a saloon and chopped his beard off.”
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sumit Kuhar called it a one-off incident. “This is an isolated incident and no organisation is involved in it,” he told ANI.
