Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday appeared before an accountability court in Islamabad for the hearing of two corruption cases. Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Muhammad Safdar are currently serving jail terms in another corruption case.

The court adjourned the hearings in the two cases – the Al-Azizia Steel Mills and the Hill Metal Establishment cases – till August 15, Geo News reported.

Security was tightened at the court and media was barred from entering the court during the hearing, according to PTI.

On August 7, the Islamabad High Court had transferred the two cases to the accountability court on Sharif’s application. Nawaz and his sons, Hussain and Hasan, are accused in all three corruption cases whereas Maryam and Safdar are accused only in one case – the Avenfield reference.

The court has already declared Hussain and Hasan as absconders after they failed to appear in court. They have been blacklisted by authorities, barring them from travelling on their Pakistani passports.
