The official synopsis: “Dune: Part Three is set nearly two decades after Paul Atreides seized control of the Imperium. Now a ruthless Emperor, Paul must face the consequences of his reign as old allies return, terrifying new threats emerge, and betrayal lurks in every shadow. Haunted by visions of Imperial collapse and the reappearance of his long-lost love, Paul is drawn into a sweeping conspiracy, with Chani at the heart of its unfolding mystery. As rebellion brews and enemies close in, Paul must confront the true cost of power and the fate of those he loves the most.”

The latest film is based on Frank Herbert’s novel Dune Messiah, one of six novels in Herbert’s Dune universe. Denis Villeneuve has suggested that he won’t be directing any more adaptations, and will instead focus on his upcoming James Bond movie.

The returning actors include Javier Bardem as the Fremen leader Stilgar and Rebecca Ferguson as Paul’s Bene Gesserit mother Jessica.

Jason Momoa, whose character Duncan Idaho died in Dune (2021), has been cloned and brought back by Paul’s new enemy Scytale (Robert Pattinson). Scytale appears to be plotting with Irulan and the Bene Gesserit to bring down Paul.

Anya-Taylor Joy appears as Paul’s sister Alia. Isaach de Bankole plays Farok, a Fremen commando. Josh Brolin and Charlotte Rampling are back too.

The trailer focuses on the action scenes and the emotional conflict between Paul and Chani. “Forgive me for all I’ve done,” Paul says, a sentiment that doesn’t wash with Chani.

Co-written by Villeneuve and Brian K Vaughan, Dune: Part Three has been shot by Linus Sandgren (La La Land, No Time To Die, Wuthering Heights). The music is once again by Hans Zimmer. The film will be released on December 18 in regular and IMAX formats.
