The All India Rajinikanth Fans Association issued a statement today distancing itself from individuals who have been expressing their views on television about the actor’s decision to float a political party while claiming to be his fans or supporters.

“This is to state that for the past few days some individuals are appearing in TV channels as supporters or fans of Rajinikanth and expressing their personal views in debates,” read the statement issued by the body that officially represents the Tamil star. “It is informed that the All India Rajinikanth Fans Association/Rajini Makkal Mandram has not authorised any individuals to appear in TV debates on its behalf and views expressed by them in TV debates do not have our endorsement.”

On January 31, Rajinikanth announced that he will be contesting the next Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. The name and symbol of his political party have not been announced. “..as stated by our leader Shri. Rajinikanth, in his speech on 31 December 2017, we once again clarify that official views on matters of importance will be disclosed only after the announcement of his political party,” the statement read. “We earnestly request the co-operation of all concerned.”

The actor’s political moves have made it difficult for his fans to contain their excitement. It is hardly news that Rajinikanth has a cult following, but a recent video released on Twitter was a hint of how difficult it will be for his team to rein in his fanbase.

Rajinikanth is currently in Malaysia attending a fundraiser, where he met his professional rival Kamal Haasan, who has also announced his political plans. “I am entering politics, I want to be CM for the people of Tamil Nadu,” Haasan had said.
