Sara Ali Khan has been signed on to star opposite Ranveer Singh in Rohit Shetty’s Simmba, the producers confirmed on Tuesday. Singh plays a notorious policeman, Sangram Bhalerao in the film, jointly produced by Rohit Shetty Picturez, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Reliance Entertainment.

Simmba borrows from Puri Jagannadh’s Telugu hit Temper (2015) starring NT Rama Rao Jr and Kajal Aggarwal. “We have bought the rights of Temper but our film is not exactly a remake,” Shetty told The Indian Express in September. “We wanted to take four-five scenes from Temper but we thought it’s better to buy the rights. It’s what we did with Singham.”

Sara Ali Khan, the daughter of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, is also working on Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath alongside Sushant Singh Rajput, which was touted as her debut. However, Simmba might beat Kedarnath to the theatres. Shetty’s film is scheduled for a December 28 release. Kedarnath, meanwhile, has reportedly run into delays over a clash between its producers.
