"Gandhi ji had stood in favour of Pakistan and said that I shall go on hunger strike, I shall die and the Rs 55 crores should be given (to Pakistan), then only I shall leave my fast. At that moment, some youths like me decided you will not die of hunger strike, you will die of bullets now."

This is Gopal Godse explaining the beginning of the plan to assassinate Mahatma Gandhi, looking straight into the camera.

Nathuram Godse's brother Gopal Godse, who was one of the main conspirators in Gandhi's assassination by Nathuram, details in the video above the three attempts made to killing Gandhi, including the one that was finally successful. The interviews with Gopal Godse were shot months before his death in 2005.

Even 68 years later, the cold calculations and the unstoppable hatred that led to the assassination are evident.

The video above is part of a 2005 documentary by French filmmaker Arnaud Mandagaran titled A Death for Peace.
