Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya – two of the five Jawaharlal Nehru University students accused of sedition – surrendered to the police on Tuesday night. The video above is of Umar Khalid's message to his friends where he says, "People outside have to carry on the struggle, we'll be fighting from inside."

The Delhi High Court denied the two students interim protection from arrest, asking them to surrender to the police and follow the due process of law. The two had offered to surrender to the court instead, citing the assault on Kanhaiya Kumar on February 12. They were not arrested earlier as the police decided not to enter the campus.

The two left the administrative block of JNU in a car and were consequently taken into custody by the Delhi Police.

Shehla Rashid, vice-president of the JNU Students Union, said in a statement, "...they have placed their faith in the law and we hope that they will be released soon." Khalid and Bhattacharya were part of a group that reportedly organised an event at JNU on February 9 to protest the hanging of Afzal Guru, the 2001 Parliament attack convict, where controversial slogans were raised.

The video below shows the two students heading for their surrender.
