Watch celebrations in JNU after Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya's release on bail
The two had surrendered to the Delhi police on February 23.
News of Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya’s being given bail had the students at Jawaharlal Nehru University burst into celebrations.
The video above shows a large crowd gathered at Freedom Square or the Admin Block in the university, where the teach-ins on nationalism have also been taking place. Student Union president Kanhaiya Kumar can be seen the middle, shouting slogans.
Like Kumar, Khalid and Bhattacharya are also charged with sedition – for raising anti-national slogans at a cultural meet which they organised on February 9 to protest against the hanging of Afzal Guru.
They have been granted interim bail for six months on furnishing personal bonds of Rs 25,000 each. They have also been asked by the court to not leave the city during this period.
