Video: Google rewinds the year to show what the world searched for in 2016
Or, the lowlights – and some high points – of the year gone by.
Was 2016 the most eventful year in recent memory? Every year feels that way, but the Google zeitgeist of terms that people searched for reveals a huge range for the year: from the Olympics, complete with the Zika virus threat, to Brexit and Donald Trump’s victory in the US elections, from silly songs that went viral to top TV shows, from one theatre of war to another theatre of war.
The video above captures what people around the world were searching for in 2016.
What it doesn’t tell us, though, is what Indians were searching for. The Olympics were there, of course, but so were Pokémon GO (forgotten it already?) and Euro 2016. As were Salman Khan’s Sultan and Rajneekant’s Kabali.
As for people, PV Sindhu and Dipa Karmakar were, naturally, in the top five. But guess who topped? Not an Indian, but Trump. In third place in this category was, perhaps not surprisingly, the mysterious Sonam Gupta.
