Watch: Britain’s Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first interview after announcing their engagement
The to-be royal couple fell in love over roasting chicken, quiet night-ins and other shared passions.
After Britain’s Clarence House announced the engagement of Prince Harry, a member of the royal family, to American actress Meghan Markle, they sat down with BBC’s Mishal Husain to give their first-ever official interview (above) as a couple. Filmed at the Kensington Palace on the day of the announcement, Prince Harry and Meghan could not stop gushing about each other and talked about how the proposal went down on a “typical, cosy night”, as Markle describes it.
“It was sweet, natural and very romantic. He even got on one knee,” Markle giggled. “I was extremely excited to say yes,” she recollects. “As a matter of fact, I could barely let him finish proposing.” Prince Harry was simply happy that they got a lot of time in private to connect and said the “stars were aligned” when they fell in love.
For Meghan, it was important that she got to know her fiance in an authentic and organic way. As she describes it: “It was really refreshing because everything that I’ve learned about him I learned through him, as opposed to having grown up around different news stories or tabloids.”
With Meghan’s filming schedule and Prince Harry’s commitments it was not the easiest thing to keep a long-distance relationship going, they confess, but “we made it work and now we’re here,” says Prince Harry.
