Watch: This is how women are learning to play ice hockey in Ladakh, starting as young as age four
The Ladakh Women Ice Hockey Foundation is at the forefront of the initiative.
When life gives you ice...play ice-hockey. In Leh and Ladakh, women are leading the charge to learn to play the game. And the Ladakh Women Ice Hockey Foundation (LWIHF) is in the thick of it.
The video above documents the LWIHF’s efforts to provide free ice-skating and ice-hockey lessons and equipment in Spituk Village of the Leh district to women between four and eighteen. The foundation aims to train over 100 women from different parts of Ladakh for the sport
India’s women’s ice hockey team made history when they won their first international game back in March 2017. However, a paucity of funds and training has meant they continued to face all kinds of hardships. The team relied on crowdfunding from over 3000 donors for travel, accommodation and training. Here is the video put out for the fundraising.
