Can an autopilot of a car or truck be as – or more – alert than a human driver? In theory, yes, for the system is constantly scanning the road and passing vehicles to ensure there is no collision, and unlike humans, machines don’t have varying degrees of concentration.

Still, to see it in action is another matter altogether. The video above captures dashcam footage of the moment a truck veered towards a Ap2 Tesla Model X equipped with an autopilot.

The driver, Jeremy Visnesky, who posted the video on YouTube, says he didn’t have to do a thing. His autopilot did the job. “Had auto pilot not have bolted to the side I’m pretty sure he (the truck) would have hit me,” he wrote.
