A 72-year-old woman from Madhya Pradesh has become a minor inspiration for thousands of people on the internet after a video of her hard at work as a typist at the Sehore district collector went viral.
Laxmi Verma helps people who visit the office to type out documents on a typewriter in Hindi. Her speed and accuracy have gained her online fame after the video above was posted on twitter. Soon, cricketer Virender Sehwag, among others, shared the video, calling her a superwoman and expressing awe at her spirit.
Following a dispute with her husband, Verma started working at a printing firm in Indore, where she learnt typing. After this she got a job in Sehore in 2008, where she has been working since.
Several people online expressed their wish to help Verma by getting her a laptop with a Hindi language keyboard. According to the Times of India, she was shocked to learn that she was a celebrity and that people were vying to interview her. “I have been working here for the past 12 years, I learned typing while I worked at a printing press in Indore. The then district collector Raghvendra Singh helped me start this work,” Verma told reporters.
A superwoman for me. She lives in Sehore in MP and the youth have so much to learn from her. Not just speed, but the spirit and a lesson that no work is small and no age is big enough to learn and work. Pranam ! pic.twitter.com/n63IcpBRSH
