Its bark was clearly more effective than its bite. A stray dog which lives in the Jhalana Forest Reserve came face to face with a leopard and not only stood its ground but also managed to scare it away. No bites were required.

Tourists who were on a safari saw the leopard – named Juliet by local guides – and stopped their vehicle on the mud track. “Suddenly, the dog came limping down the track in a friendly gesture,” Ved Prakash, the driver of the vehicle, told Bangalore Mirror. “Upon getting no response from us, it curled itself up in front of our vehicle, unaware that the leopard was around.”

But it turned out not to be Juliet’s day.
