At least 3,000 people were evacuated in Nashik after continuous rain for the past three days pushed the water level of the Godavari river above the danger mark on Tuesday, reported CNN News18. The district collector has confirmed the flood situation in the region. While an elderly woman was killed when a wall collapsed in her neighbourhood, authorities fear that a couple may have been washed away in a flash flood in Umrale village, according to PTI.

Several areas, including Ramwadi, Bohorpatti, Bhandi Bazar and Saraf Bazar, were under water. Many bridges in Old Nashik area were submerged on Tuesday after local administration released water from Gangapur dam, causing water levels to rise in the rivers.

"The irrigation department released thousands of cusecs of water from Gangapur, Darna, Palkhed and other dams following heavy incessant rain. This caused flooding in Darna, Kadva and other rivers in the district," an official told the news agency.

Nashik city was also affected as water flowed into areas close to the river. Authorities declared a two-day holiday for educational institutions in view of the adverse weather conditions. The district administration has asked for 300 Army jawans to be deployed in the region for rescue and relief operations.
