The rumour mill has been churning for Samsung’s flagship, the Galaxy S10, and the latest one hints at an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, also called the fingerprint-on-display (FOD) feature, on the S10. These rumours had been floating around for quite some time now and the latest report by Digitimes, a media, marketing and consultancy firm, re-affirms that the Galaxy S10 may get a hidden fingerprint sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 is expected to come with enhanced hardware over last year’s Galaxy S9 family. And the presence of the advanced sensors is likely to help the South Korean company differentiate its offering from the iPhone X that Apple launched last year equipped with a camera sensor-supported Face ID technology.

The Digitimes report, citing people familiar with the development, also claimed that initial shipments of the next-generation Galaxy flagship will be ramped up to 40 million units from the earlier given figures.

Based on a report by Business Insider, Samsung’s S10 lineup will comprise of three models: one with a 5.8-inch screen, one with a 6.1-inch screen, and the third with a 6.4-inch screen. The 6.1-inch and 6.4-inch AMOLED-based variants will account for 34-36 million units, as per the report. And the cheaper 5.8-inch offering will get a rear fingerprint scanner as opposed to the FOD reported to be featured on other two models.

Samsung is set to outsource its in-display sensors from Taiwan-based General Interface Solutions (GIS) and China-based O-film Tech to offer the newer hardware technologies on its next flagship, a report by NDTV Gadgets confirms. Currently, the Vivo Nex and Mi 8 Explorer edition offer fingerprint-on-display technology.
