On Friday, the city woke up to fresh rainfall. The Meteorological Department has predicted occasional heavy rain through the day.
“A new trough of low pressure has formed in South Andaman Sea, ” Regional Meteorological Centre Chennai Director S R Ramanan told reporters. "It is expected to develop into a low pressure in South Eastern Bay of Bengal on November 14."
Rains through the night submerged railway tracks, delaying most of the train passing through the city.
In other parts of Tamil Nadu, the rains have claimed 48 lives. Cuddalore district, 180 kms from Chennai, was the worst hit. Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced Rs 4 lakh as compensation to the bereaved families.
