Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi bore the brunt of Twitter’s wit on Monday for suggesting that his party could end the illegal drug trade in Punjab in just a month if elected to power.
“The government here encourages the drug trade because it benefits them,” Gandhi said, referring to the Shiromani Akali Dal-led state government of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. “We can solve the problem in one month if we are voted to power.”
The Nehru-Gandhi scion made the statement at a protest in Jalandhar, where he also blamed the Akali Dal and its ally Bharatiya Janata Party for the run-in Udta Punjab, a Hindi film based on the drug abuse in Punjab, has had with the Censor Board.
Twitter of course couldn’t help but make fun of his tall claim.
#RGWarOnDrugs really? seems like the entire party had taken something before appointing Kamal Nath Punjab in-charge
