Design. It’s the first thing you notice about a car. It’s what makes some cars head-turning beauties and others a classic that lives on for years. It’s why some cars seem to have distinct personality. They were designed that way.
Some designs can capture the world’s imagination. Take, for example, the stable of Kia Motors whose straight-line philosophy underpins all its car designs. Representing clarity, precision and distinctiveness, this philosophy has brought a never-before noticeable design trend to the world with each Kia car.
The fluid SUV
Why are SUVs doomed to the typical sporty look when they have become the preferred choice for even families? The Kia Sportage, a mid SUV, blurs the lines between an SUV and a sports sedan. After all, SUVs are not just off-roading choices anymore, they are as much at home on sleek city roads - and the Kia Sportage walks the fine line between luxurious and sporty with its standout features.
The Sportage is a contemporary car. Its headlights are placed high and daytime running lights are positioned like a three-blade propeller. At night, the car appears especially distinctive with its LED fog light clusters which look like illuminated ice cubes. It also uses design to isolate road noise, such as with sound-absorbent materials throughout its high wheel arches.
The American boxy SUV, refined
The Kia Telluride, designed in the tradition of the classic boxy SUVs, too, is a departure from the excessively aggressive design common today. It can be described as a refined truck, trying to invoke the very American design sensibility. It has hockey-stick-shaped taillights which make a simple, minimalist statement. It is simple, straightforward and functional, much like modern architecture.
The aerodynamic Coca Cola bottle
The Kia Stinger sports sedan is designed to evoke the classic Grand Tourer experience. It is aerodynamic, structured to reduce drag and enable high speeds. In fact, the aircraft inspiration extends to everything, from the side mirrors and ‘driver’s cockpit’ to the wheelbase and rear end of the car. The athletic Stinger has an unmistakable likeness to the shape of a Coke bottle and flaunts its curves.
Inspiration that knows no bounds
What does a car design have to with tigers, dance or fireflies? At Kia, everything.. All Kia cars for example, are unified by Kia’s signature design elements, such as the tiger nose grill and ice cube fog lights. Watch the video below to know more about design at Kia.
Kia’s design capabilities haven’t gone unrecognised. It has become the fastest winner of 70 Design awards globally. These include the prestigious Red Dot Design awards and the iF Design Awards.
