Toss: Meg Lanning opts to bowl
First innings: MU 109/8 after 20 overs
Second innings: DC 110/1 after 9 overs
That will be all for this blog. Ended up being a decisive Monday in the WPL. Two teams knocked out in one go as UP Warriorz clinched a top three spot. And then DC topple MI from the top of the table with a huge NRR differential. MI vs RCB and UPW vs DC on the final day of league play to decide 1-2-3.
Player of the match: The entire bowling unit deserves it, says Marizanne Kapp.
Orange Cap: Back with Meg Lanning, and she is not really very comfortable wearing it still.
DC 110/1 after 9 overs: DELHI WIN BY 9 WICKETS AND 11 OVERS TO SPARE. Two sixes and a four in that Ishaque over for Capsey. Ishaque lost her Purple Cap today and finished with 2-0-36-0 today.
DC 91/1 after 8 overs: Definitely an anomaly. Just 2 runs in that Kerr over.
DC 89/1 after 7 overs: DC are about to decimate another run-chase. Huge over as Alice Capsey smashes three sixes in Matthews’ over. The bowler, frustrated, sends down a bouncer (she is an offspinner mind you) and it goes for four byes.
DC 67/1 after 6 overs: Meg Lanning, stop it! (Don’t). What a shot, lovely pick-up hit for six. That’s not her trademark flick, that’s a cross-batted swipe that she made look elegant. What a powerplay for DC.
DC 56/1 after 4.3 overs: WICKET! Six, dot, out. Shafali smacks Matthews over deep midwicket for six and then the WI captain gets one back, deceiving the batter with flight. Stumped. Verma st Y Bhatia b Matthews 33 (15 balls)
DC 50/0 after 4 overs: Don’t have the numbers handy but I think DC are on their way to either topple or get really close to MI on the NRR too, not just points. They are in the driver’s seat for topping the table by this time tomorrow. Three fours in Ishaque’s over, one off a misfield.
DC 33/0 after 3 overs: Lanning and Shafali with a four each in that NSB over as DC are nearly a third of the run-chase down in three overs.
DC 22/0 after 2 overs: That is a start and a half for DC. Wong starts off with a short ball but Shafali was waiting and pulls it for four. The rest of the four is a cat-mouse game, Shafali hits two more fours, down the ground.
Wong to Shafali, expect some short stuff.
DC 10/0 after 1 over: Two gorgeous shots through the offside for Lanning, first a drive past mid-off and then the trademark square cut. Two fours in the first over for DC.
NSB to start off. Lanning and Shafali in the middle. DC’s batting depth is an issue, and MI will have to expose that early.
MI 109/8 after 20 overs: Jonassen, no surprise, delivers a tight last over. The batters do the right thing by trying to run a two off the last ball but Amanjot is run out. A Kaur run out 19 (16 balls)
MI 104/7 after 19.2 overs: WICKET! A decent hand by Wong comes to an end. MI would have liked a couple of big hits in the end but wasn’t to be. Wong c Lanning b Jonassen 23 (24 balls)
MI 103/6 after 19 overs: Well, actually 120 not so easy anymore thanks to a terrific 19th over by Shikha. Should have had a wicket too as the ball hit Wong’s shoe first but not reviewed.
MI 99/6 after 18 overs: Right then, MI are giving themselves a decent chance to cross 120 and then some. Six for Wong to start that Jonassen over.
MI 88/6 after 17 overs: Reddy has been quite fantastic today, getting swing even late on. Just three singles.
MI 85/6 after 16 overs: A little disappointing that MI haven’t trusted to bat her higher up but a great chance for Amanjot to show what she is capable of. Two fours in that Radha over.
MI 74/6 after 14.5 overs: WICKET! FOUR AND OUT. And out comes the floss too from Jemimah. After a full toss from Shikha is put away for four, she hits a fuller length delivery to Jemimah at midwicket and she is delighted. Kaur c Rodrigues b Pandey 23 (26 balls)
MI 69/5 after 14 overs: Just dealing in singles at the moment, five in Radha’s over.
MI 64/5 after 13 overs: Just three singles as Kapp comes back with a tidy over. MI coach Charlotte Edwards reckons with around 130, they could still make a fight out of this.
Still no Amanjot. Wong could be handy at the death but sent out early.
MI 58/5 after 11.4 overs: WICKET! End of a lovely cameo from Pooja, as JJ provides Delhi a crucial breakthrough. RAdha with a ‘ear-cupping’ celebration to the MI fans behind her, presumably. Love it. Vastrakar c R Yadav b Jonassen 26 (19 balls)
MI 55/4 after 11 overs: This is fantastic cricket at the moment. Vastrakar with two fours off Pandey’s bowling, one of them a one-handed smack over cover. And the other over mid-off.
MI 46/4 after 10 overs: Ah, theres’s the counterattack. A four and a six for Vastrakar in that Poonam over, a four for Kaur too. But forget all that, how about this for a new grip by Pooja!
MI 28/4 after 9 overs: Reddy getting a lot of swing there, actually. Not seam, genuine movement in the air. Couple of wides, but otherwise a top over.
MI 24/4 after 8 overs: Reddy to restart after the timeout.
MI 24/4 after 8 overs: Just 2 runs in that Radha Yadav over. Should MI have sent Amanjot Kaur ahead of Pooja Vastrakar here?
MI 21/4 after 6.5 overs: WICKET! This is a nightmare start for MI. Kerr edges one to the keeper as Reddy joins the party. Kerr c T Bhatia b Reddy 8 (16 balls)
MI 19/3 after 6 overs: What a powerplay for DC! Jonassen finishes with a 2-run over.
MI 17/3 after 5 overs: It’s Kerr-Kaur time much earlier than expected. And the two are not hesitant to play their shots here either. A four for Kerr in that Kapp over.
MI 10/3 after 3.3 overs: WICKET! What a catch. Rodrigues dives to her right and catches the ball, and maintains grip while her elbow lands on the ground at full force too. Matthews c Rodrigues b Pandey 5 (10 balls)
MI 6/2 after 2.2 overs: WICKET! Oh what a ball. The ball cuts in off the seam and NSB is beaten through the gap, as the bails get dislodged. Sciver-Brunt b Kapp 0 (1 ball)
MI 6/1 after 2.1 overs: WICKET! The ball angling away does the trick for Kapp. Y Bhatia c T Bhatia b Kapp 1 (6 balls)
MI 6/0 after 2 overs: A four for Matthews off Capsey but otherwise a tidy over. Nearly got her wicket too, but the leading edge falls short of mid-off.
MI 2/0 after 1 over: Kapp on the money to start off. Just two singles in that over.
Kapp has the ball in hand. Bhatia and Matthews in the middle for MI.
