EPL Saturday: Leicester City hammer Crystal Palace 3-1, Liverpool beat West Brom to go second

Premier League football was back on Saturday with Arsenal, Leicester City, Liverpool and Tottenham all in action.

Tottenham were held by a stubborn Bournemouth defense in a hard-fought encounter. Arsenal too were held by Middlesbrough, which brought their six-match winning run to an end, while Leicester City finally showed glimpses of their form last season against Crystal Palace. Stoke City beat Hull City 2-0 with their Swiss man Xherdan Shaqiri scoring a brace.

Leicester continue amazing home run

Leicester City extended their unbeaten home run to 20 league games as the Foxes beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at the King Power Stadium. Ahmed Musa scored his first goal for the club, while Shinji Okazaki and Christian Fuchs struck in the second half to complete a convincing win. Yohan Cabaye pulled one back for Palace, but it was hardly enough. Jamie Vardy, who has not scored in eight games, was rested with manager Claudio Ranieri insisting he needed to rotate his players as they have European commitments.

Arsenal held by Middlesbrough

Arsenal's six-match winning run in the Premier League came to an end as Middlesbrough held the Gunners to a goalless draw. However, a point was enough for Arsenal to move to the top of the table on manager Arsene Wenger's 67th birthday. The Gunners had five efforts on target, but only one worried Boro keeper Victor Valdes as he was at his denying best. Middlesbrough defended brilliantly and should have won the match given the chances they created.

Liverpool continue to amaze

Liverpool were at the sublime best as they beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1 at Anfield on Saturday. Sadio Mane and Philippe Countinho were on target as they moved up to second spot in the table. West Brom were outclassed as they tried to stop Liverpool’s sizzling form. Gareth McAuley pulled one back for West Brom in the closing minutes of the game.
