Brazilian football legend Pele’s son Edinho surrendered to the police to complete his sentence in a money-laundering and drug-trafficking case, reported PTI.

Edinho, a former goalkeeper, was first arrested in 2005, but appealed against the verdict and remained free during the trial. However, he was sentenced to 33 years of imprisonment in 2014. The court later reduced the sentence to 12 years and 10 months, but said that Edinho must be imprisoned while he appeals.

Before the 46-year-old surrendered, he said there was not a shred of evidence against him and denied all charges. “I’m frustrated because I’m being massacred by the legal system,” he said. “I never had any involvement with money laundering.”

Edinho admitted that he was once addicted to drugs but said he has been clean for many years. He played as goalkeeper in the 1990s for Santos and has been working as a manager of a small club in the state of Sao Paulo.
