Ankur Mittal landed India’s second medal in the ISSF World Cup, winning silver in the men’s double trap event in New Delhi on Monday.

Mittal was engaged in a tough battle for the gold medal with Australian James Willet, who finished first, just one point ahead. Great Britain’s 18-year-old shooter James Dedman walked away with bronze.

Mittal scored 74 points in the closely contested final and showed great composure against Willet, who is a former World Cup champion and finished fifth in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Another Indian, Sangram Dahiya, had also reached the men’s double trap final final, finishing above Mittal in the qualifying rounds, where Britain’s Scott Steven had finished first, followed by Willet. However, Dahiya bowed out of the semi-final stage.

Earlier in the day, veteran Indian duo Jitu Rai and Heena Sidhu finished first in the mixed in the 10m air pistol event.
