David Silva and Sergio Aguero scored as Manchester City marched into the FA Cup semi-finals with 2-0 win over Middlesbrough. at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

City took the lead in the third minute after capitalising on a lax Middlesbrough defence left Pablo Zabaleta free at the back post. The Argentinian made most of the position to slot in a low cross in the box, where a waiting Silva found the back of the net.

Pep Guardiola’s side dominated proceedings thereafter with plenty of chances on goal. They finally managed to double their advantage in the 67th minute as Sergio Aguero pounced on a low cross from Leroy Sane.

Guardiola went into the game with a full strength playing XI, leaving little to chance. Despite the odds, Middlesbrough did well to restrict the opposition to just two goals, considering relentless attacks City forged at the Middlesbrough goal.

Goalkeeper Brad Guzan produced a number of fine saves, but City proved too strong to beat for the riversiders, who now have to contend with a battle to prevent relegation in the Premier League where they are placed in 18th spot.
