The Indian men’s national team ended the year, ranked 105th in the world. They were also ranked 105th last month and there were no change in ranking points as the team did not play a single point-accruing fixture.
The men played nine matches this year and won 7, drawing two. They finished 2016 ranked 135th in the world and registered a 30-rank jump this year. They achieved a two decade high of 96 in July this year.
India also finished the year ranked 15th in Asia, and are also 15th of the nations that have qualified for the AFC Asian Cup 2019 to be held in UAE. Should they maintain the same position till the draw to be held in mid-2018, they will find themselves placed in pot 3.
Iran finished the year as the best Asian nation ranked 32nd, followed by Australia (38), Japan (57), Republic of Korea (60) and Saudi Arabia (63).
Germany end the year ranked as number one, after ending the year on 1602 points. Brazil are second as Euro 2016 champions Portugal are third. Argentina and Belgium round off the top five.
World Cup 2018 hosts Russia are ranked 64th.
