Mahela Jayawardene has slammed a proposal forwarded by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to the country’s sports minister asking him and three other former cricketers to serve as consultants on a committee ‘to advice SLC on matters related to cricketing areas’.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SLC, Ashley de Silva in a letter to Faiszer Musthapha, Minister of Provincial Councils, Local Government and Sports requested the latter to appoint Kumar Sangakkara, Jayawardene, Aravinda de Silva and Roshan Mahanama ‘on a consultancy basis for the greater interest of the game of Cricket in Sri Lanka’.

The coach of the Mumbai Indians, Jayawardene responding in a tweet stated that his recommendations while previously serving on other committees had not been implemented.

“With all due respect to the selectors & the sports minister i have spent 1 year in the cricket committee & 6 months in a special advisory committee & no recomendations were implimented. I dont have any trust in the system. If any one wants to buy time please ‘use us!,” the former Sri Lankan skipper tweeted.

The official body for the sport in Sri Lanka also requested the services of Muttaiah Muralidaran as an ‘advisor to spin bowling department on technical areas’.
