As for Djokovic, the Serb showed just why he’s the best player in the world. He fought for every ball and earned his fourth title in the last five Grand Slams. He moves to 16 Majors and is just four behind Federer now.

Absolute brilliance from Novak! He’s 15-30 down dives full length to get the volley and win the point. That was clutch play from the defending champ. He follows that up with two comfortable points to seal the game. The players are moving gingerly now. This match has been brutal. It all comes down to who wants it more.

Another hold for Federer. And it wasn’t any easier. Djokovic gets to 30-all but then the Swiss holds firm with a wonderful inside-in forehand followed by a stretch volley, and a big first serve to close out the game. Whichever way this match goes, it’s safe to say now, it was a classic!

This time Federer had his chance at 15-all, he got the second serve and stepped in to have a crack at it but the ball went centimeters wide. The Swiss then hits a second outrageous drop-shot winner to make it 30-40 but he can’t keep his second serve return in and concedes the game. Each hold is massive at the moment. Each point is being cheered by the packed stadium. The atmosphere at Centre Court is so, so intense!

Roger consolidates the break! Novak had his chance in that game at 15-30 but he got unlucky as his forehand from well inside the court hit the net-cord and went wide. Federer then closed out the game with two massive serves, the second one being an ace.

5th set, Federer 3-4 Djokovic – Roger breaks right back!

Nerves from Djokovic as he fails to land his first serves in. Federer stays in the points with a string of backhand slices and finally breaks on his second break-point. Both players are content with avoiding the lines. You can sense the tension in their muscles at the moment.

Federer falls 15-40 behind but gets a gift as Djonkvic hits a second serve into the net. But the Serb makes no mistake after that as Federer hits a tame approach shot and runs towards the net. The defending champion takes position and hits a sizzling backhand cross-court winner to bag the game.

Federer then hits a nonreturnable serve before hitting yet another backhand into the net. Djokovic follows that up with relentlessly accurate ground-strokes to win a grueling rally. Federer was on top for the most part but gave away the point with two forehand shanks. The Swiss then concedes the next pint with an inexplicable miss after finding himself with an easy put-away at the net. He then misses another backhand before landing an ace to make it 2-3 in favour of Djokovic. The 37-year-old then hits a superb backhand down the line to level things up at 3-3. Djokovic decides to approach the net but gets passed by a sizzling forehand down the line. Federer then hits an ace before hitting two shanks off his forehand. Djokovic then induces another error to win three points in a row and get his first set point at 6-5. The serve is with Federer but he concedes the set with another backhand shank that goes wide. Hard to say that the better player won the set, but we can say for sure that the less consistent one lost.

Down 15-30, Federer takes his game a notch higher with a stunning backhand down the line to induce an error, before winning the point with another sharp forehand. He then hits his first double fault, before hitting an inch-perfect inside-in forehand to get advantage. The Swiss closes out the game with another strong down the line approach shot which Djokovic hits long. Tough hold for Federer. Now, Djokovic will serve to take this first set to a tie-breaker.

Djokovic can’t keep a backhand in and we have our first deuce of the match. The Serb had been struggling to land his first serve but gets on right on the T to get advantage. But Federer makes it deuce again with a brilliant running passing shot with his forehand. It was a tentative approach shot by Djokovic. The Serb wins the next point comfortably but Federer gets the third deuce with another whipping forehand winer down the line. Djokovic has to work with his second serve again, Federer keeps going for the slice and eventually misses an inside-out forehand. Poor tactic by Roger. The celebration at the end said it all, this win meant the world to him and he worked hard for it. But even at 37 and against his toughest rival, Federer was able to make tennis look easy.

6:03 pm: Four-time Wimbledon winner and defending champion Djokovic enjoys a 25-22 edge in career meetings with the Swiss, stretching back 13 years. The Serb has won 14 of their last 20 meetings and eight of the last 10.

Federer has lost all four of their most recent meetings at the Slams and it’s now seven years since he triumphed over the 32-year-old at the majors.

Hello and welcome to live updates of the Wimbledon 2019 men’s singles final between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. It’s a battle between two legends of tennis and promises to be an absolute cracker.

Federer is chasing a ninth singles title at the All England Club. A victory on Sunday will see him tie with Martina Navratilova for the most singles crowns at Wimbledon. It will be his 21st Grand Slam triumph and will pull him three clear of Rafael Nadal for most Majors among men.

Djokovic, on the other hand, is eyeing a 16th Grand Slam title. He won the Championships last year and followed that up with victories at the US Open and Australian Open. He’d beaten Federer in the 2014 and 2015 Wimbledon finals and heads into Sunday’s match as the slight favourite.
