Dehradun: Uttarakhand Police assault, parade two men accused in murder case
‘This is what happens to those who commit crimes,’ the Premnagar Police station in-charge said.
The Uttarakhand Police on Saturday paraded and assaulted two men accused in the murder of a Bachelor of Technology student in Dehradun, ETV Bharat reported.
The two accused, Prahlad Raj and Ankur Singh, were wanted in connection with the murder of Divyanshu Jatrana (22) on March 23.
The incident allegedly stemmed from a clash between two rival groups of students, in which Jatrana was injured and later died during treatment, The New Indian Express reported.
On Saturday, the two men were marched through public areas barefoot in handcuffs for 2 km while being assaulted by the police. They were also taken to the alleged crime scene, ETV Bharat reported.
In videos shared on social media, the accused are seen crying and apologising.
“This is what happens to those who commit crimes,” ETV Bharat quoted Premnagar Police Station in-charge Naresh Rathore as saying.

According to the police, 15 persons have been named as accused in the case, four of whom were arrested earlier.
After the arrest of Raj and Singh nine accused persons remain absconding. The two were arrested from West Bengal, where they were reportedly hiding in Purulia district, Navbharat Times reported.
