Haryana government drops chargesheet against IAS officer Ashok Khemka
The bureaucrat was accused by the Congress of misusing his powers to cancel a land deal between the company of Robert Vadra and real estate giant DLF.
The Bharatiya Janata Party government in Haryana has decided to drop charges against senior IAS officer Ashok Khemka, who was accused of "exceeding his jurisdiction" by the Congress when it was in power in the state in 2013. Khemka was accused by the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-headed Congress government of misusing his powers to cancel a land deal worth Rs 58 crore between the company of party president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra and real estate giant DLF.
An auditor's report had said the Congress bent rules to enable windfall gains for Mr Vadra's company, reported NDTV. The Congress had reportedly ignored the report and set up its own inquiry, before chargesheeting Khemka for "causing damage to Vadra's reputation" and illegally cancelling the deal.
Khemka had submitted his reply to the chargesheet to the BJP government in Haryana earlier this year. He was also given a personal hearing by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on October 6, reported The Indian Express.
