Chhota Rajan brought to New Delhi from Indonesia
The underworld don was taken to the CBI headquarters in the capital amid tight security.
Underworld gangster Chhota Rajan was brought from Indonesia to the Central Bureau of Investigation headquarters in the capital early on Friday by a joint team of the Delhi and Mumbai police, headed by CBI officials. Rajan had been on the run for 27 years and was caught last week in Indonesia, while travelling under a fake passport issued in Sydney. The 55-year-old will reportedly remain in Delhi to be questioned by various investigative agencies.
Rajan has claimed to have information about former aide Dawood Ibrahim and his links to Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence. The Delhi police have handed over seven of Rajan's cases to the CBI. On Friday, there were reports that the Gujarat government is seeking custody of Rajan as well, as eight cases are registered against him in Ahmedabad and Surat. State authorities are in consultation with the home ministry regarding this.
Rajan had told reporters in Bali that he will be glad to return to India, and dismissed claims that his arrest was orchestrated as he faced threats from Dawood Ibrahim’s associates.
