Tamil Nadu rains: Jayalalithaa seeks central assistance, toll reaches 111
Home minister Rajnath Singh said the Centre will provide 'all possible help' to the state.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday notified the Centre of the flood situation in the state. She also said that her government would submit a detailed memorandum seeking central assistance by next week. Jayalalithaa also sought a central team to assess the situation, following which home minister Rajnath Singh assured her it will be deputed once the Centre receives the memorandum, reported PTI.
As parts of Chennai received fresh rains on Thursday morning with the North East monsoon becoming active, Jayalalithaa said that 24 more deaths have been reported in the past few days, taking the toll in rain-related incidents to 111. The maximum number of casualties have been reported in Cuddalore with 12 deaths. Jayalalithaa had earlier allocated Rs 500 crore towards relief and rehabilitation in the state, before announcing a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the bereaved families.
