United States President Barack Obama on Sunday said that the killings in San Bernadino, California, that left 14 dead, was an act of terrorism. Obama spoke against divisiveness in society, and said that falling prey to segregating sections of society would be doing what extremists want. He also added that the US would now make it harder for people to buy guns in the country. The President said that they needed to enlist Muslims as well, who are some of their “strongest allies”, in their fight against terrorism instead of pushing them away through “suspicion and hate”.

Obama said that a new phase of terrorism has started, where large scale attacks by groups like a-Qaeda had been replaced by smaller, less complex attacks by fewer individuals. He added that besides stricter gun laws, some visa regulations would also be looked at, including the K-1 fiance visa programme, under which the female shooter in the attack entered the US. The investigation of the attack had now led officials to Pakistan, reported The Indian Express.
