The Indian national football team thrashed Nepal 4-1 for a second successive win in the SAFF Suzuki Cup to clinch a semi-final spot. The highlight of India's performance was a brace from the 18-year-old Lallianzuala Chhangte to help the Blue Tigers finish top of their group.

India conceded early in the third minute when Bimal Margar slotted it into an empty net. However, the Tigers picked up the pace as Rowlin Borges equalised in the 26th minute. Despite large periods of dominance, India went into half-time with honours even, but took a deserved lead thanks to a deft move from captain Sunil Chhetri in the 68th minute.

Chhangte was substituted in at half-time and became India's youngest scorer in the 81st minute, as his fierce, left-footed shot went into the top corner. He finished off the evening in fine style, scoring a second in the 90th minute thanks to a beautiful ball from Borges.
