At least 22 people were killed and more than 40 others injured in a suicide bomb attack in northwest Pakistan on Tuesday. According to Pakistani media reports, a suicide bomber on a motorbike crashed into the gate of the National Database and Registration Authority office in the Mardan district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, before detonating his explosive-laden vest.

An emergency rescue officer told PTI that the office, which issues government identity cards, was crowded at the time of the blast. Officials of the bomb disposal unit at the scene said that 8-10 kilograms of explosives were used in the attack, which was claimed by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan splinter group Jamaatul Ahrar, according to Dawn.
