The Delhi and District Cricket Association on Wednesday decided to file a defamation case against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, suspended Bharatiya Janata Party MP Kirti Azad and other Aam Aadmi Party functionaries for making "wild and baseless" allegations of corruption against it, reported PTI.

Addressing a press conference, acting president Chetan Chauhan said the state cricket body was forced to take legal action because of "false charges" that have been levelled against it. He added that three agencies are already investigating the cases against the association and there was no need for a fresh probe to be initiated by the Delhi government.

Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party released two letters allegedly written by finance minister Arun Jaitley to the Delhi police, claiming they proved his attempts to cover up corruption in the DDCA. The party also presented five questions to the finance minister, including whether he had misused his position to pressure the Delhi police.

The Bharatiya Janata Party dismissed the claims as “utter nonsense.” Spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said, “If we were to hold AAP to similar standards, Arvind Kejriwal should have resigned long back. He is threatening the police; he is protecting his principal secretary,"

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has accused Jaitley of being involved in financial malpractices during his term as the DDCA president. Following these allegations, Jaitley filed both civil and criminal defamation suits against Kejriwal and five other AAP members.
