Sania Mirza, Martina Hingis win 11th title, seventh on the trot
The Indo-Swiss pair clinched the Sydney International tournament, beating Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic 1-6, 7-5, 10-5 in the final.
The Indo-Swiss women's doubles pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis on Friday won the Sydney International tournament, beating Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic of France 1-6, 7-5, 10-5 in the final. The top seeds lost the first set meekly, before carving out the win in one hour and 13 minutes, reported NDTV.
This was the 30th straight match that the pair have won, which led them to their 11th title win together and seventh on the trot. The last time they lost a match was in August last year. The pair had a hugely successful 2015 season, winning nine titles.
The champion duo's semi-final win at Sydney over Raluca Oluru and Yaroslava Shvedova on Thursday had taken them past the pair of Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva, who had won 28 games on the trot in 1994. The next target that the super-successful duo will aim for is the 44-match consecutive streak set by Jana Novotna and Helena Sukova in 1990. The record for the longest women's doubles winning streak is 109, set by Martina Navratilova and Pam Shirver.
