Bajirao Mastani, Piku win big at the 2016 Filmfare awards
While the period spectacle took the Best Actor, Best Film and Best Director categories, Shoojit Sircar’s comedy-drama won Best Actor (female) and several critics awards.
Ranveer Singh’s nuanced portrayal of 18th century general Peshwa Bajirao in Bajirao Mastani won him the Filmfare award for Best Actor on Friday. The movie took several of the top honours, including Best Film, Best Director for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and Best Actor in a Supporting Role (female) for Priyanka Chopra. It also won for Best Playback Singer (female) for Shreya Ghoshal, in addition to the awards for Best Choreography, production design and costumes.
Other films that did well included Piku, which won Best Actor (female) for Deepika Padukone, Best Dialogue and the critics awards for Best Film and Best Actor - Amitabh Bachchan. Kangana Ranaut picked up the critics award for Best Actor (female) for her fiesty role in Tanu Weds Manu Returns, while newcomers Sooraj Pancholi (Hero) and Bhumi Pednekar (Dum Laga Ke Haisha) won in the debutant categories.
