The Indian women's team got their World Twenty20 campaign off to a great start, comprehensively beating Bangladesh by 72 runs in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

India's opening duo of Mithali Raj and Vellaswamy Vanitha started proceedings with a partnership of 62 in just 7.4 overs and India never looked back. Despite the loss of three quick wickets, Harmanpreet Kaur (40 off 29 balls) and Veda Krishnamurthy (36 off 24 balls) struck some lusty blows to help India post 163/5 in 20 overs, their highest-ever score in Twenty20 internationals.

In response, Bangladesh never got going, limping along at a low run-rate. They lost three wickets in their first ten overs and never recovered, managing to score to only 91/5 in 20 overs.
