The body of a jawan has been found after two soldiers were buried in a Siachen avalanche
The 23-year-old was a native of Vallaramapuram village in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli district.
The army dug out the body of a 23-year-old jawan from under 12 feet of snow in Siachen on Sunday. According to Hindustan Times, the soldier from Tirunelveli district was swept away along with another officer while on surveillance duty when an avalanche hit their post in the Kargil sector on Thursday.
K Vijayakumar was a native of Vallaramapuram village in Tamil Nadu, and is survived by his parents and two younger sisters. A spokesperson said the army is in the process of evacuating his mortal remains from the area after which they will be moved to his village where the cremation ceremony will take place with full military honours.
Last month, 10 soldiers died in a similar incident where an avalanche hit their post in Siachen. Lance Naik Hanamanthapa, who was the only one found alive six days after the avalanche, passed away at the Army RR hospital in New Delhi, four days after his rescue.
