Punjab issues alert after three Pakistani terrorists reportedly enter state
The militants and a local are traveling in a grey Swift Dzire loaded with explosives and are expected to cross Banihal Tunnel in J&K tonight, the warning said.
The Punjab Police on Wednesday issued an alert across the state, saying that three Pakistani terrorists and a local are travelling in a grey Maruti Swift Dzire car filled with explosives and a suicide belt. The alert added that the terrorists may be planning to attack Delhi, Goa and Mumbai, NDTV reported. The vehicle, with license plate JK-01-AB-2654, is expected to pass through Banihal Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday night, according to the warning.
The alert was sent out based on inputs received from the Delhi Police. Punjab Police officers have been directed to step up security checks at important public and military buildings, as well as in markets, malls, train stations and educational institutes.
Early in March, Delhi was put on high alert for possible terror strikes, following intelligence inputs that 10 terrorists had entered the country through Gujarat. National Security Advisor of Pakistan, Nasir Khan Janjua, had informed his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval that some terrorists believed to be fidayeen from the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed terror groups had entered the state to carry out attacks.
