Around 900 million litres of water get wasted every day in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the state's Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. This accounts for 27% of the city's daily water supply, he said. This comes at a time when parts of Maharashtra are suffering from severe drought.

Fadnavis said that the Maharashtra government will appoint a committee of experts tasked with formulating a roadmap towards solving all of the city's water-related problems. The committee will ensure there is equal distribution of water in the city and its suburbs, along with a 24-hour supply. It will also suggest measures to prevent leakages. The committee will submit its report in the next two months, Fadnavis said.

The chief minister was replying to a calling-attention motion submitted by the Bharatiya Janata Party's Yogesh Sagar, who said that there is unequal distribution of water in Mumbai based on population.
