Mithun Chakraborty has attended Parliament three times in two years
He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Trinamool Congress in April 2014, and he is yet to ask his first question.
Actor and member of Parliament Mithun Chakraborty has attended the House proceedings only three times in the past two years, reported The Indian Express. The 65-year-old was absent for the ongoing session as well. Chakraborty was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Trinamool Congress in April 2014.
When Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien read out the actor's leave request, many legislators pointed out that the current session of the Upper House was the seventh one in a row that Chakraborty had failed to attend. Samajwadi Party' Naresh Agrawal and Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi said the actor often did not even put in a formal notification before skipping House sessions. Legislators alleged that the actor was pursuing his personal and professional work when he was supposed to be in the House. Chakraborty is yet to speak in Parliament.
The Disco Dancer star is not the only one though, celebrity MPs have a history of struggling with attendance and performance in the House. Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar asked his first question in the House in December 2015, three years after being nominated as a member of the Rajya Sabha, according to dna. Other such celebrity legislators who have made headlines by their absence in the House includes Bollywood actor Rekha and Bengali actor Tapas Pal. Hema Malini stepped up her game after an attendance report compiled till July 25 2014 was released, reported NDTV.
