The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad on Wednesday arrested Farooq Bhana, the main accused in the 2002 Godhra train burning case, reported News18. Police have been looking for Bhana since the tragedy took place. He is believed to be the mastermind behind the incident, in which 59 people were charred to death when the Sabarmati Express was set on fire at Godhra station on February 27, 2002. The police will hand him over to the Special Investigation Team set up to look into the incident, caused major riots all over the state.

The former corporator of the Godhra municipality was arrested from Kalol in Panchmahal district. He was supposed to attend “a clandestine meeting with his family members”, when the police caught him, reported The Indian Express. "Bhana had said that the Sabarmati Express will be late and instead of 2 am it would reach at 7 am. He was part of the conspiracy behind burning the train, for which 140 litres of petrol was procured following the meeting at the guest house,” ATS officials said.
