The list of Indian athletes qualifying for the upcoming Olympics in Rio de Janeiro continued to increase as sprinter Dharambir Singh and triple jumper Renjith Maheshwary qualifed in the men's 200 m sprint and triple jump categories respectively at the fourth Indian Grand Prix in Bengaluru on Monday, according to the Athletics Federation of India.

Singh clocked 20:45 seconds to set a new national record – the Olympic qualification mark is 20:50 seconds – while Maheshwary leaped a distance of 17.30 m, setting a new national record and surpassing the Olympic qualification mark of 16.85 m.

Both the Indian men's and women's 4 x 400 m relay teams have put themselves on the cusp of qualifying for the Olympics with their performances on Monday. The men's 4 x 400 m quartet of Kunhu Muhammed, Muhammed Anas, Ayyasamy Dharun and Arokia Rajiv finished with a time of 3:00.91 seconds, which put them in the 13th spot in the world rankings.

The women's team comprising Nirmala Sheoran, Tintu Luka, MR Poovamma and Anilda Thomas also clocked 3:27.88 seconds to push their ranking to 12th from 14th and are also set to qualify. The top 16 teams at the close of July 11 will qualify for the Olympics.
