Some objects found in Bay of Bengal being checked for links to missing IAF plane: Manohar Parrikar
The defence minister said the ships engaged in the search operations have been asked to verify, but nothing can be confirmed yet.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said that search teams had found “some objects” in the Bay of Bengal that might be from the Indian Air Force plane that went missing on July 22 with 29 people on board. Parrikar said, “There are no confirmed reports or anything. But some objects are located. The ships [engaged in search operations] have been asked to verify that,” PTI reported. He clarified that the armed forces are not leaving anything to chance and that nothing is for certain.
The IAF’s AN-32 aircraft went missing 16 minutes after taking off on the morning of July 22 from Chennai. It was heading to Port Blair. At least 17 Coast Guard and Navy ships and 23 planes have been pressed into the search operations. On Tuesday, Parrikar had said that India had spared no resources in the search for the missing flight. He added that all leads in the investigation had “turned bad”, despite pings being picked up over the Bay of Bengal.
